Our History

In 1951, at the age of 20, Louis G. Piancone departed his home in Corato, near Bari, for the United States. After several years working in a delicatessan and delivering cheese, Piancone decided to pursue the true American dream and opened an Italian delicatessen in Bradley Beach, New Jersey on March 31, 1955.

Upon realizing the need for wholesale distribution to restaurants in the area, Piancone took his stores in a different direction. In 1964, he sold the retail side of his business and focused his efforts on supplying food to restaurants under a new name - Roma Food.

In 2004, Roma merged with Vistar Corporation, a leading vending, theater and beverage distributor. Over the next few years, Roma Food expanded its operations and then in 2008, Roma Food and Vistar underwent a merger - joining forces with with Performance Food Group, a leading national broadline food distributor. Since that merger, Roma Food has quickly expanded its presence in Virginia, Illinois, Florida, Maine, and Massachusetts. From the beginning, "quality service, quality products" has been the motto by which Roma abides, and today this can be experienced when working with each of the 20 Roma Food locations across the United States.
